karaoke fun!

Carrie and I have talked about karaokeing ever since I started working at the cafe 10 months ago. Today, we finally did it - and we got one of our line cooks, Bryan, to come out with us too!! We had entirely too much fun.

Asian flavor

Recently, my cafe has been serving a lychee ice cream and no one there has had any clue what a lychee is. So today, I ventured out to Fairfax to H-Mart, an Asian grocery store. I hoped to find fresh lychees, but there are no more - so I settled for canned lychees (and some shrimp crackers for me).
It's times like ths I miss living in Asia...

1/2 an address?

I love adresses that include a fraction. This apartment not only has 1/2 an address, but also houses a friend of mine that I visited today.

more cook-outs!

In order to be truly representative of the afternoon, I should've taken a picture of the seemingly bottomless pitcher of homemade sangria. Instead, I forgot about my camera until this thorougly impressive dessert was presented to us. Yumm...

apartment hunting

I met a realtor to view an apartment today. It was this apartment in the Eastern Market area of DC. I did end up applying for it, so we'll see what happens!! (The apartment is up on the 3rd floor.)

Nothing says summer like a tiptoe race in the pool!

summer laziness

Today was a lazy day. This is where I spent as much time as possible. As long as I have a backyard, I might as well enjoy it. :-)

The Wilson bridge

I was strapped for photographic inspiration/opportunity today, so this had to suffice. I traveled once more to Solomons today to retrieve my camera and meet my dad, uncle and grandmother for lunch. En route, I crossed this bridge. The End.

a haircut!

After bemoaning my raggedly long hair for weeks now, I finally got it cut on a whim. I paid way too much, but it was a great cut by a veritable Parisien in the same chair that John Roberts (the Supreme Court judge...) had just been in. :-) How '50s is this shot???

it's a painting party!

Today I helped some NC friends paint their new Pentagon City apartment. So of course I wore my painting pants. Documented here is the newest stain on said pants - a bright, sunny yellow from Eddie and Jen's living room. Fun people + fun colors + fun activity = fun times. :-)

Chloe

This is a real dog, not a toy one. Her name is Chloe. She belongs to my grandmother. Or rather - my grandmother belongs to her. She's adorable. My parents and I visited Chloe and my grandmother in Solomons, MD for Mother's Day brunch today.

The first post

So I've decided my project for the summer is going to be a photo-a-day journal. I'm going to try and let the photos speak for themselves as much as possible - but sometimes a little commentary may be helpful in interpreting/appreciating what may look to be a pretty random or pointless picture. I'm no photojournalist, so while the pictures won't always be extremely spectacular or artistic, they will, ideally, be indicative of a highlight or defining characteristic of the day. Ultimately, I am the target audience of my blog; I'm not putting this out there to attract thousands of loyal followers or show off impressive photographic art or travel experiences. I'm just looking to document my summer...and hoping that the pressure of a posting a picture a day will inspire me to do something with my days, rather than waste them in front of the TV.

The first few posts are retroactive - and, since I left my camera at my grandmother's apartment for a week or so there, somewhat more sporadic than I hope they will be throughout the summer.

So without further ado - picture #1. This a photo of some presents my mother brought me when she visited me on Mother's Day this year (backwards, I know). She was especially excited about giving me the electric toothbrush. :-P (Note: the gifts are arranged on my new prize possession - a quilt my best friend handmade me for my birthday this year.)
