move in, phase 1

har har

Saw this sign posted in Al's Steakhouse today. Al's Steakhouse is a Del-Ray joint that would fit in just as well in Norlina, NC. But you can't find a better burger for $3. If you can't read the sign, it says "Our credit manager is Ms. Helen Waite. If you want credit at Al's, go to Helen Waite."

randomness

Saw this tree from the bus and thought the bark was cool. That's all.

best street sign ever

I've seen these signs before, but luckily I had my camera on me as I passed one on my walk from my internship to the metro station. If I was a sign-stealer...man, I'd be all over this.

internship, day 1

I almost didn't make it to taking a picture today either. Took this just before midnight. It pretty much symbolizes my day. The black teacher bag came back into action today. It contains the gray pants I wore to the internship, the apron I wore to my night job, a book I'm reviewing for my internship and my new official Peace Corps badge. How spiffy am I?

damn. busted.

OK. So I didn't take a picture today. Not a single one. But I still have some cool pics from my walks around DC of recent weeks, so I'll post one of those. All I did today was pack boxes and wait tables - not many photo-ops. This is a pretty picture of the Masonic Scottish Rite temple on 16th St. Pretty awesome, huh?

celebrities?

I attended a TFA BBQ today - the DC region was sending its latest recruits off to Institute and arranged for some motivational speakers and free food. Much to everyone's pleasant surprise, Michelle Rhee, the new DCPS chancellor and '92 TFA alum, showed up and took some questions. Sadly, the shot's a little fuzzy, but oh well. It was a pretty exciting event...if you're an education buff in the DC area...

a vista

This is a glance of my walk to work. Just down the hill from my house. It was a beautiful day.

stretching it

So I've been hard pressed for pics lately. It was another double today, so this was all I could come up with. In this shot you see Tigger (the first Valentine's present I ever received...it was from my dad), Ralphie the CU mascot (from when my brother went to school there), and my new "inspi(red)" t-shirt.

There were a number of good shots today, too. But this one is the funn(i)est. :-)

B&B, part 2

I took 2 good pictures today. So I'm going to splurge and give you a 2fer today. Above is the outside of the Maison Orleans. Much better picture than the one of the robes. :-P Below is a cool shot of the Capitol building. Mom and I spent some time walking along the Hill today.

Maison Orleans

Mom came into town tonight and I stayed with her in a B&B on Capitol Hill. I almost forgot to take a picture today, though, so I snapped a shot of the funky robes that were hanging on the back of the room door. They matched the bedspread.

a day in the district

I took a LOT of pictures while I roamed the District tonight. Sadly, pics of my favorite scene didn't turn out quite as hoped. So here's a segment of Hopscotch Bridge just around the corner from Union Station. I think it's the most perfect depiction of hopscotching ever.

So I worked another double today, and the 2 pictures I did take both came out somewhat disappointingly. But here's one of them. It's one of my favorite perspectives down the Avenue, but this shot doesn't do it justice.

old friends

On the left is Dan, an old high school friend. On the right is Jess, an old college friend. In the middle is Svetlana, a new artsy-type friend. Good times.

thursday's mishap

So since it's been a week of mishaps, I figured I'd actually photograph today's. It makes for a somewhat artistic (maybe?), or at least colorful, picture. I cut my finger with a knife. Fun times.

rainy day

This was the view from my bedroom window all afternoon. Yeesh - talk about dreary...

meh

I ended up in this neighborhood last night. Across the street is the Marine Barracks.

rough day

OK, so this day was tough. I could've taken a picture of my poor beat-up little Pepper (my car), but I didn't. I should've taken a picture of the Amtrak station in Richmond, since that's where I spent most of my day. But I forgot to. So instead, I took a picture of my first relaxed breath of the day. Over a bowl of the best cream of chicken soup money can buy and the book I spent 5+ hours reading today.

another day of bliss

I will miss my NC lakehouses. This is how I spent my Sunday. All day.

so proud...

This is the reason I lived and toiled and cried and stressed in NC for two years. For this moment for these kids. Congratulations WCHS class of '07. Do us proud!

my paradise

This is a big part of what I drove 200 miles for. Especially after a 4-hour drive in 95-degree heat with the windows down. I let myself into the house, changed into my swimsuit, and took a running leap. It felt soooooooo good...

disclaimer

So I'm leaving town for the weekend, and won't have my computer. Therefore, there will probably not be any picture posts until Sunday or Monday.
See you then!

naptime!

I'm not usually much of a naptaker, but I indulged in a long 1-hour nap this afternoon. This photo is obviously staged..but representative. :-)

MVC

Today I paid a quick visit to GWU's satellite campus - the Mount Vernon Campus (MVC). It kinda reminded me of a mini-UR! I took a few pics, but I think this one turned out best. Especially colorwise. :-)

a double day

It was a beautiful day today. :-)

blah

I don't think a caption's really necessary. This was my afternoon in a nutshell.

my favorite movie :-)

Today I paid a very quick visit to my friend Eddie, whose apartment I helped paint a couple weeks ago. Upon seeing me, he presented me with the best thank you gift ever - quite serendipitously, too, as I had just been telling another friend how I needed to go pick up this very item. I am a happy, happy girl. :-)

kickball fun

Today an old college friend invited me to come fill in for a missing kickball player, so I went and played kickball on the Mall for a couple of hours. :-) Yes, that is the World War II memorial right behind us. Not a bad spot for for kicking a ball around, huh? (P.S. We won this game 6-2.)

Antics at the Star

So I was afraid I wouldn't have anything to post today. I worked a double. Wahoo. Fortunatley, Jason and Jimmy were enough fun to warrant me taking pictures of them after work. They put me in a "time-out". This is what they looked like from my little time-out "corner." (You can also admire the beer taps of my bar from this perspective.)
